Real Estate Photography Checklist: How to Prepare for Your Shoot
Use this pre-shoot checklist to prepare your listing for professional real estate photography, video, aerial media and 3D virtual tours. For the best results, complete these preparations before your scheduled appointment.
General Preparation
- Declutter and organize each room.
- Clean floors, windows, mirrors and visible surfaces.
- Put away personal items, valuables, toys, chargers and loose cords. If you don't have anywhere to put things, move everything into closets, the garage or a smaller bedroom/office.
- Replace burned-out light bulbs and make sure all light bulbs in the same room match.
- Turn on interior lights and lamps (if the room is dark), and open blinds and curtains.
- Turn off televisions, computer screens and ceiling fans.
- Remove visible trash cans, laundry baskets and cleaning supplies.
- Secure pets and keep people out of areas being photographed or recorded.
- Make sure the property is accessible at the scheduled appointment time.
Exterior Preparation
- Move vehicles away from the driveway and the front of the property.
- Put away garbage and recycling bins.
- Remove garden hoses, tools, toys and other outdoor clutter.
- Mow the lawn and trim overgrown landscaping.
- Sweep walkways, porches, decks and patios.
- Arrange outdoor furniture and straighten cushions.
- Clean visible outdoor surfaces and windows where needed.
- Tidy pool areas and remove distracting accessories.
Interior Preparation
Kitchen
- Clear countertops of small appliances, dishes and everyday items.
- Remove magnets, papers and personal items from the refrigerator.
- Empty the sink and put away dish racks and sponges.
- Wipe down countertops and appliance surfaces.
Bathrooms
- Clear countertops of toiletries, toothbrushes and personal care products.
- Close toilet lids.
- Remove bath mats and hampers.
- Clean sinks, faucets and shower glass.
- Hang fresh, neatly arranged towels.
- Remove shampoo bottles and other products from shower and tub areas.
Bedrooms and Living Areas
- Make beds neatly and arrange pillows.
- Clear nightstands, dressers and coffee tables.
- Straighten furniture, chairs, cushions and decorative accents.
- Open closet doors only if requested or if closets are part of the planned shot list.
Walkthrough Videos and 3D Tours
- Clear pathways and doorways of furniture and other obstructions.
- Check that rooms look tidy from every angle.
- Make sure all rooms included in the shoot are accessible.
Aerial Photography and Video
